February 6, 2009 Shevat 12, 5769Dear MJCDS Parents, Our students started the week with a lot of activity. Ms. Adrienne Borisy Gross visited early Monday morning. Students continued working on their Assemblage by either doing the paper mache portion of the project or by painting the background. Later in the week many students added details in various contrasting colors. On Monday afternoon students also went to the Monroe Street Library for their monthly visit. It is wonderful seeing how happy our students are to be engaged in finding books and reading. On Tuesday Faygie shared a delightful lesson with the students connected to Tu B' Shvat. Not only did the students begin to learn the song Haskedia Porachat and make copies of themselves as trees, they learned about giving. This was further emphasized when students went to Klein's Greenhouse on Thursday. There they learned more about plants and trees. They purchased plants and donated their purchases to the elderly whose days were brightened by such thoughtfulness. In General Studies students had a great time with math, graphing, coloring and jumping! After jumping and making tallies students colored bar graphs to show the color of their shoes. Needless to say laughter and joy abounded in this very physical math lesson. During Hebrew and Judaic studies students continued learning various Hebrew letters and vowels, learned more Tu'B'Shvat songs and learned about the weekly parasha. Rabbi Biatch graciously showed us one of the Torah's as we wanted to see how Beshallah looked in the Torah. This portion which is a special song was also depicted in art form by our students as Chaya Necha's mom, Candice Milun, graciously shared some paper products with us. Reminder: Please have children come to school on time. Please send in an art smock if you have not done so already! Please SEND IN SHOE BOXES! We need this for a special activity. Thank you for sending in $5 for the purchase of a plant which was given to an elderly person. Upcoming Events: Monday, February 9th requested produce needed. Until next timeÖ have a sweet Shabbat.
