October 24, 2008 Tishrei 25, 5768 Dear MJCDS Parents, Our thanks to all for helping make our holiday season sensational. Thank you too to Rabbi Ben Gideon for allowing us to met at the B.I.C. sukkah! We appreciate the participation of those who came. This past week flew as we continued learning about our holidays. We made edible sukkot because we were unable to make them last Friday. We also made mock Torah scrolls and learned about the difference of writing in book form and scroll form. We placed the name of each section/book in one of each of the five designated areas of the scroll. We also wrote our final holiday greetings. We sent good wishes to Senator Feingold and Senator Kohl. Hopefully, these gentlemen will return our greetings. During general studies, students continued their reading of the daily poem. This week they read out loud what they wrote last week as well as wrote shape poems. They again tied this all in with current events as they read their Scholastic News articles. Identifying and categorizing apples utilized math skills as well as tied in to the Scholastic News article on apple orchards. With the weather change the topic of wind blew in. Students continue to use the anemometer as well as review data about wind speed and wind directions. Students also had a lesson on hot and cold air which tied in a Scholastic News article. Tally charts and line graphs helped students round out the lessons. Students this week began Israeli dance lessons with Jen Lasman. We thank Candace Milun for finding her for us. Next Wednesday, October 29, we will begin swim lessons at the YMCA. We will need to have the studentsí car seats each Wednesday through December 17th. Please if you can come join us on Fridays from 1:15 pm ‚ 2:00 pm, we would be honored to have you. It is a very special and meaningful time. One request is necessary; however, please help your child remember to bring in some loose change for Fridays as tzeddekah. It helps us elevate our Shabbat good cheer as well as fulfill an important mitzvah. We thank you for your help with sending well wishes and food to Jonathan Greenspan and his family. We understand that his mending time will be a bit long, however, he is recovering! We continue to wish him a ěrefuah schlamaî a complete healing. DO SIGN OUT ATTACHED PERMISSION SLIP! Until next timeÖ have a sweet Shabbat. Kol tuv, Meisha and Jodi
