Dear Parents, Welcome to the Sweet's newest grandson! We await to hear his name after the brit milah! A donation has been made to MJCDS in this newest Sweet's honor! Welcome to our new students Jojo Sidney! In last week's Friday letter we unfortunately had her last name amiss. And an official to Mrs. Jodi Harris aka Ms. Oskin. A hearty to the Rudin family for donating two books to MJCDS in honor of Debbie Rudin's recent birthday. This past week we reviewed and expanded certain topics such as citizenship, government, compromise and endangered species while adding to it by studying recycling and butterflies. While you might wonder how these various subjects are selected, the rationale is easy when one sees that we are acclimating the students to the study of current events through the Scholastic News magazine which they receive. Not only does this magazine present timely information, it does so at a grade/level/age appropriate level. Students too wrote grandparents and great grandparents for the upcoming holiday of Rosh Hashanah. In that letter many learners asked their grandparents and or great grandparents to save the date: May 3rd 2010. That is the day marked for Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day. Last year it was a resounding success and we are sure it will be one this year as well. Thank you Faygie Matusof and Adrienne Gross for returning to teach our students. Faygie strengthens our Hebrew Judaic program with fun filled movement filled learning that further expands Jewish life and Jewish living. Ms. Gross educates our students about art. This past week they ìmetî the artists Picasso and Degas. They learned about modeling, sculpture, line and form. This Friday, September 11th students will take their sketch books home. Each student is to draw 4-5 separate pictures of apples in the sketch book. The sketch book is due back September 14th. Please help your offspring(s) accomplish this task. Thank you. Also, thank you for bringing your children to school on time! It has helped make our days run more smoothly. As no one at present is allergic to nuts, it has been requested that we be allowed to have nut products at school for this year. Unless there are any problems with this we would like to proceed in such manner. Please let us know if this needs to be changed.
